Rev. Peanut's Medicinal Chicken Stew
Should you happen to find yourself on the sharp end of a dose of Man Flu, I prescribe liberal quantities of this, all washed down with a couple or three hot whiskeys. Given that today I am suffering from this ailment, I shall now heed my own advice and get meself back into the kitchen...
Necessary Items -
6 chicken thighs
500ml of chicken stock
2 large spuds, hung, drawn and quartered
A leek
A couple of cloves of garlic, chopped
6 asparagus spears (which are totally useless for hunting, incidentally)
Some mushrooms
Some cabbage
A couple of carrots
A few sprigs of thyme and rosemary
Some sage perhaps? What do you think?
A teaspoon of my hot sauce (The Ghost edition)
Salt & pepper
Maybe some peas
How to do it -
Roast the chicken thighs skin side down for about half an hour.
Chuck the spuds in the roasting pan half way through the roastiness, just for a laugh.
Let it all cool down and then remove the chicken skin. You shouldn't be wearing it in any case.
Take the meat off the bone (oooh, er, missus) and chop into chunky bits.
Chop the vegetibules into bits too. Some small, some big. Surprise yourself.
Place the chicken, potatoes and veggies in a pot.
Add some water to the roasting pan and boil it up for a bit and then chuck that into the pot too.
Add the chicken stock and all the other bits and/or pieces.
Cover and simmer gently on a low heat for about an hour and a half, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon held in your filthy, germ-ridden hands.
Let it cool down a bit and then eat your fill while coughing and spluttering all over the dinner table.
This is a dish best served alone...
When finished, it's hot whiskey time. Then go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning you'll feel sound as a trout. The Reverend has spoken. This dish is blessed...
