Rev. Peanut's Home Grown Hot Sauce

Rev. Peanut’s Home Grown Hot Sauce:

Necessary Items:

200g Chillies. I use a variety of chillies. But don’t omit the Ghost!

This year I'll be using a very special guest - Carolina Reaper...

2 Medium Onions

3cm Fresh Root Ginger

4 Cloves Garlic

2 Teaspoon Mustard Powder

1 Teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/2 Cup Red Wine Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

1 Cup Passata

Salt & Pepper to taste.

How to do it:

  • Roughly chop the chillies, onion, ginger and garlic and place all the pieces carefully, one by one, into an aptly named blender.

  • Add the mustard powder (Wasabi gives an extra little kick)

  • Add salt and pepper

  • Add all the wet stuff.

  • Put the lid on the blender. This is quite an important step, unless you are moving house the following day.

  • Blend for a couple of minutes at low speed, then high speed, then low speed again. This helps to relieve the boredom.

  • When blended, transfer into glass jars with air tight lids and stick ‘em in the fridge.

  • It takes about a week for the flavours to combine, so keep your grubby little fingers off it until then. Should last a few months unopened in the fridge. Difficult to eat it when it’s unopened though.

  • Delicious when smeared on a variety of items – grilled meat, fried egg sammiches, fingers, omelettes etc.
